We at CL Quarter Horses and Paints never thought we would own
a small dog. Originally a large dog family Linda Jo happened on a Toy Australian
Shepherd aka: North American
Shepherd at a Paint show in Sioux Falls, South
Dakota in 2006. She just couldn't turn down that sweet face and ended up owning
her, many thanks to Diane Pugh. Maddy was the hit of the show and in every one's
arms. All who held her would have liked to buy her and a dream was born. We now
have had several litters and they have proven to be everything we had hoped for!
They have gone on to be agility dogs, show dogs, search and rescue dogs, herding dogs (yup a puppy was
purchased to keep the kids from the road and the pond!) and just all around fun
pets, that do anything you ask just because they want to please you. You can see the puppies on the puppy
page
So now with breeding, raising, training and showing Working Paint Horses we are also in the dog breeding business. Our goal is to get into agility and obedience with our dogs but haven't had the opportunity or time to do that yet, but our puppies are already going on to do it for us with their owners, proving our dogs can do it all!! They are out of champion bloodlines and we intend to continue their heritage and add to it.
As you can see the dogs are part of our family. The puppies are raised lovingly in our home, handled and played with daily, in fact sometimes they won't let us get away!! We introduce them to everything that goes on in a home and when the weather permits in the barn. We have an inside arena and the pups are taken out to play as often as we can. We have the neighborhood kids come and play with them also, to get them used to children. They are free to run the house thru-out the day so they interact with the other adult dogs and of course the cats. All of our dogs and puppies are happy and healthy both mentally and physically. I would also like to add, when looking for your next puppy regardless if it is a Miniature Aussie or any other breed, please make sure to buy from a reputable breeder. Make sure to do your homework and ask if the parents have had at least their hips OFA'd with a minimum of a fair rating but it also depends on the breed for the rating. Also ask if the eyes of the parents have been CERF'd clear. The breeder will have a certificate from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals if the hips, elbows and patella's have been checked. Make sure that the certificate is a permanent rating and not a preliminary as things can change. The minimum that the breeder should have is the hips and eyes. Anything else depends on the breeder. You can also find this information on the OFA website a link is below. If you are given the registered name of the parents you can check yourself to see if this has been done. It saddens me to have to mention this, as I would hope all Breeders are upstanding members of our breed but that is not always the case. As with anything else, Buyer Beware. We guarantee our puppies against hereditary defects (hips, eyes) for 24 months, see our contract for more information. We are here to give support to all our puppy buyers for the life of the puppy. If we don't know the answer we know where to get it for you. Linda Jo Landau 952-758-8871 cl@clquarterhorsesandpaints.com
